The Guild of St. Stephen, or to give it its proper name the Archconfraternity of St.Stephen is an international
organisation set up especilly for Altar Servers
within the Church. It is called an`Archconfraternity`
because it has
been given special power by the Vatican. It is named after St.Stephen who was the first Christian Martyr to die for
the faith.
The objectives of the Guild are:
1. To encourage the highest standard of serving at the Church`s liturgy and so help the whole community`s
particpation to be more fruitful.
2. To provide Altar servers
with an understanding of what they are doing so
they may serve with increasing
reverence and prayerfulness and thereby lead to a deepening response to the vocation in life.
3. To unite servers of different parishes and diocese for they`re mutual support and encouragement.
The Rules of the Guild are:
1. To serve at the altar
with reverence, understanding and regularity and
with due attention to personal cleanliness
and tidiness.
2. To say short prayers in preperation for and in thanksgiving after serving the Mass.
3.To observe silence in the sacristy and reverence in the sanctuary.
4. To assist the priest.
Every Altar Server takes on a
responsibility when they begin serving at the
Altar. They must make sure they know
what their job involves, understand where they are to be at specific times, and what to hand the priest during the
Mass.
